Tania had organised a camping weekend for her friends at Mountain Sanctuary Park in the Magaliesberge. This included us, Eleni, me and Christopher.
Heavy rain greeted us on the way up the Magaliesberg to the camp site. It just stopped in time as we arrived and allowed us to set up tent in dry weather. Rain and strong wind battered our tent both nights there, all very exciting, reminding me of some camping experiences in Scotland.
A high point of a weekend at MSP is always the hike up through Tonquani gorge and out through Ceder gorge. We went up Tonquani from the bottom to the waterfall, a hike of only 2 km. But than back again for about 700m to Ceder gorge which we used as the exit point. This hike took us the whole day, coming back only at about 17h00. And that for a total distance of not more than 5km, just shows how difficult the terrain is. I slipped on a rock and hit my shin, blood was flowing and it looked serious. Fortunately I was able to continue the hike and actually finish it.
A short hike on Sunday morning got us to the West pools, my favourite swim spot, here one can jump into the water from a height, But I must say age is catching up on me and I didn't climb all the way up and rather jumped from half height, which was possibly 3 meter.
