Frogs hike is near Cullinan, a vry nice hike with interesting features. We had a good turnout of Janine, Lydia, Jörg (back from Germany), Jenny and me.
The hike started in our case with a walk along a levada, a channel for transferring water as we saw them in Madeira. It brought back pleasant memories of the time spent on that island.
The trail took us to the start point of the levada, at some little water fall, following the river for a while and then up the mountain. And here we saw something very interesting. An ancient river bed near the top of the mountain. The geology behind this was explained when I wrote about the Wag n Bietjie hike. It goes back about 2700 million years.
Further up we eventually came to a view point, looking down on a water fall. That was obviously a target, but there was no way down. We had to make our own route through the bush and grass to get to the path that leads to the water fall. Big blocks of conglomerate down there. This became our lunch spot.
Some interesting features after lunch, a narrow passage between the large blocks, a cave to pass through and lots of swimming pools, although at this time of the year the water is very cold and not inviting for a swim.
That was the end of the hike, enjoyed by everyone, I can certainly recommend this as a lovely hike with lots of variety.
