Pyrenees 6 to 20-Sept-2007

Pyre11.jpg, 114130 bytesMarch, march, march...through Ria to Prada. We caught the train at 11h15 in Prada and arrived in Perpignan about 12h00. We didn't feel like searching the whole town for a cheap hotel and just took the nearest one opposite the station at €39 each.
First we had to have a shower, I could actually see the dirt running off me., than find some clean cloth to put on and off we went into town. Walking and walking through narrow streets, along wide avenues, over placa. I don't think this town is special in any way, just a town with people and buildings.
The natural history museum was interesting, they only charged €2 each and threw in some free coffee. Stopping at one of those open air cafes at some placa set us back R32 for a coke and R27 for a Hansa beer, I will not go there again.
For dinner we selected this little Turkish take away, having some kebab for only €8 a plate and plenty of it. This was one of those Döner Kebabs, which one nowadays finds plenty of throughout Europe. It's not very good food, but plenty of it for little money.

18-Sept-2007

Had to get up very early in order to catch our train at 7h02 from Perpignan to Strasbourg. It was a long, but pleasant journey all the way through France.
In Strasbourg we didn't mess about and just got into a taxi to take us to the hotel Chi something. For dinner we selected another Döner Kebab and had plenty of food.

Pyre12.jpg, 124973 bytesThe day was to be spent in Strasbourg, walking up and down, looking at old buildings and museum. What we managed to do was:
go to the station to organise our onward journey the next day to catch the train to Frankfurt in Offenburg
go to the Science museum, that was closed.
into the old town with the cathedral. A real tourist trap. To get up the tower they wanted €4.40 to walk up 66m. The invitation was declined.
Jim found a Daily Telegraph and we were allowed to sit and have some coffee. For lunch we had some Bratwurst, one could see we are getting closer to Germany.
